Language Arts

The Language Arts program includes history and social sciences and follows the San Carlos School District Scope and Sequence for Language Arts as aligned with the the State Common Core Standards Framework. Instruction is provided in all classrooms on a regular basis.

Teachers help students to develop the skills to read, write, speak, listen and use language effectively in various subject areas and within a variety of contexts and narrative forms.

To help students meet state standards, Arundel uses the Lucy Calkins Reading Units of Study, a new and innovative way to instill a lifelong love of reading; and Lucy Calkins Writing Units of Study, a workshop approach to writing. In addition to these approaches, teachers also use Words Their Way, a comprehensive spelling program for students.
